The institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Fudan University Shanghai Medical College, was established in 1979. With the great effort of the predecessors, the institute has developed into a world first-class research center from the original and unadvanced laboratory. The present director of the institute is professor Dajin Li. There are 20 researchers including two of high title and five with associate professorship. The academic diplomas of the faculty are all above the master's degree.
The institute has always insisted on the combination of the scientific research and clinical application. The most advanced achievements in scientific research are applied to the diagnosis and therapy of the complicated diseases in clinic, and it has achieved the perfectly clinical efficacy. The researches focus on reproductive endocrinology, peri-implantation mechanism, fetal-maternal immune-regulation mechanism, neuroendocrine-immunology regulation network, reproductive immune regulation, bearing and rearing better children, gynecologic tumors and so on. The center has undertaken 29 scientific projects at or above the provincial or ministerial level sequentially: the Key Project of Chinese National Programs for Fundamental Research and Development (973 Program) in 2006; the Key Project of National Natural Science Foundation in 2007, the Major International Cooperative Project of National Natural Science Foundation in 2010. The institute has achieved 12 progress prizes in science and technology at or above the provincial level and has published approximately 80 scientific papers selected by Science Citation Index. In 2010, Pro. Dajin Li and colleages have published a paper in the journal《Blood》and the Impact Factor reached up to 10.555.
The institute consists of laboratory of molecular biology, laboratory of pathomorphology, precision instrument room, flow cytometry room, sterile cell culture room, isotopic laboratory, RNA room, imagining system laboratory, molecular cloning laboratory and experimental specific pathogen free animal room. In addition, it is equipped with many advanced precision instruments to meet the demand of reproductive regulation research: Two-photon laser confocal microscope, Flow Cytometer, Laser micro cutting instrument, Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) instrument, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) instrument, Drug Concentration Analyzer, Infrared laser scanning imaging system, Enzyme--labelled meter, β counting device, varied electrophoresis system, Speeding centrifuge, the optical and inverted phase contrast multi-function microscope, in situ hybridization instrument, Gel image analysis system and so on. This center also possesses five functional technology platforms: cellular biology technology platform, molecular biology technology platform, immunology technology platform, Image processing technology platform and experimental animal technology platform. All the above platforms are open without preconditions in order to share the common resources. At present, the institute opens for the academic colleagues at home and abroad completely and welcomes the colleagues to develop academic researches with these platforms.
